About the Role

The overview.

Fugitive Studios is looking for a Unity programmer to help build FOB, our multiplayer survival systems game. You'll work directly with the founder on core architecture, gameplay systems, and multiplayer networking — the pieces every other system stacks on top of.

This is a contract role with the flexibility to grow into something longer-term as the studio scales. You'll have real ownership over the systems you build and full attribution in the game credits.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement gameplay systems (inventory, combat, factions, survival needs).
  • Extend the multiplayer networking layer — session management, state sync, prediction.
  • Write clean, modular, event-driven C# that stays testable as the codebase grows.
  • Code review, pair on tricky problems, and help shape the studio's engineering practices.
  • Playtest builds and turn feedback into concrete fixes.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of professional Unity + C# experience.
  • Shipped or contributed meaningfully to at least one multiplayer game or prototype.
  • Strong systems thinking — you write code that composes cleanly, not code that gets rewritten in six months.
  • Comfortable with async/task-based code, event systems, and dependency injection.
  • Self-directed — you can own a system and drive it to done.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Unity Netcode for GameObjects, Mirror, or Photon Fusion.
  • ECS / DOTS experience.
  • Server-authoritative gameplay design.
  • Familiarity with survival, sandbox, or immersive-sim design.

What You Get

  • Contract pay for hours worked.
  • Revenue share in FOB.
  • Full attribution in game credits and press materials.
  • Real influence on the game's architecture and technical direction.
  • Flexible schedule — indie studio, no meetings for meetings' sake.
